  • What is the recommended number of serves per day?
We recommend feeding your child 1-2 x 30g serves of Grow with Iris growing up drink per day. If your child is taking an additional multi-vitamin, please consult a healthcare professional.
  • What does your growing up drink taste like?
Grow with Iris is a creamy, slightly sweet, milky tasting product with slight vanilla notes. We have created it to be a delicious milk alternative. You will struggle to find a more delicious and nutritious free from alternative with the added vitamins and minerals need to support your child’s dietary needs.
  • Where can I buy it?
Grow with Iris will be available to buy online from summer 2023. In the meantime, if you would like a free sample and fancy giving us pre-launch feedback please follow the ‘Try our Product’ tab on our website menu. Watch this space!
  • How do I make it?
Our product comes in dry powdered form, just like dairy formulas and growing up drinks. It is made by adding cooled boiled water and can be enjoyed warm or cold, on its own, with cereals or in porridge. Measure 200ml of cooled boiled water into a clean beaker or bottle. Add one full sachet or two heaped tablespoons (30g) of powder into the beaker or bottle. Replace lid and shake well for 10 seconds to dissolve the powder. Always test the temperature of the drink and consume immediately. Dispose of any drink which has not been consumed. Do not store made up drinks and do not reheat.
  • What allergens is your product free from?
Grow with Iris growing up drink is free from milk, egg, soya, tree nuts and peanuts as well as from gluten. It is also lactose free.
  • How can you guarantee that Grow with Iris is free from all of the above?
Our product is made using British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Food and Drink Federation (FDF) guidance, in partnership with Anaphylaxis Campaign and Coeliac UK. To guarantee that we are truly ‘free from’, we take four crucial steps: Our product recipe does not use any ingredients (including additives and processing aids) containing the specified “free-from”allergens: milk, lactose, egg, soya, tree nuts, peanuts or gluten. Our product is made in a factory strictly following good manufacturing practices (GMP) and allergen management practices. We use a robust sampling and testing programme (using a fully validated analytical method) suitable for all of the specified allergens that we claim to be ‘free from’. We make sure the way we talk about our “free-from” claims to you, our consumers, (including labelling of the product) complies with the relevant legal requirements. You can read more here
  • What other measures have been taken to ensure the general safety of this product?
In addition to our strict allergen testing protocol, we also follow a rigorous chemical and microbiological testing regime to ensure that the product is safe for young children to consume. This is the same level of testing that is carried out on babyfood-grade products (for babies aged 0-12 months), to give parents additional peace of mind. Chemical testing means we test for heavy metals and pesticides to make sure the product is safe for consumption. Microbiological testing means we test to make sure no nasties (pathogenic micro-organisms) like E.Coli or Salmonella are present in our product. We test for 12 different micro-organisms in total.
  • Where are your products manufactured?
Grow with Iris is manufactured with our AA-grade BRC manufacturing partner in Somerset. This is the highest grade manufacturer in the UK. Food safety, accuracy, attention to detail and hygiene are continuously present in the thoughts of every member of staff and we are very proud to partner with them.
  • Are Grow with Iris products approved by medical professionals?
We are aware that parents of children with food allergies and intolerances will be nervous about testing a new product from an unknown brand, so we have worked with leading Paediatric Allergy and Respiratory specialist Dr Diab Haddad and NHS Dietician Sarah Foster to tailor our product to ensure it offers a tasty, nutritious choice for children with food allergies and intolerances, and young children who are vegetarian or vegan.
  • Why should I trust your product if it is not currently recommended by the NHS?
Grow with Iris was conceived by Amy, a frustrated allergy mum who could not find a safe yet palatable milk alternative for her daughter Iris. After winning two rounds of Innovate UK grant funding awards, Amy was able to build a team of experts around her to make sure her idea was safe, legal, fit-for-purpose and above-all, delicious. She has worked with technical, regulatory and sustainability experts alongside healthcare NHS paediatricians and dieticians to ensure the product is everything she hoped it would be – and a product that all children will enjoy. She hopes that one day it will be available on the NHS.
  • My child is has intolerances / food allergies other than the ones you list being free from. Can they still consume your product?
If your child has a food allergy or intolerance other than the ones we are ‘free from’, we do not recommend feeding our product to your child. Please consult your GP or health practitioner for advice. Please note that our product contains coconut.
  • What age group is Grow with Iris for?
Just like dairy-based growing up milks, Grow with Iris is nutritionally tailored for young children aged 12 months - 4 years of age. It’s so tasty that older children up to the ages of 9 or 10 may also enjoy it.
  • How nutritious is your product?
Grow with Iris is complementary nutrition, to be consumed alongside a healthy and varied balanced diet. It is fortified within the daily recommended allowances of key vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, D and B12 , calcium, iron, iodine, and zinc which can sometimes be lacking in a free from diet. This means there is no need to give your child a separate multi-vitamin.
  • You use pea protein. Why peas?
Peas are not just rich in protein but are also a more sustainable choice than soya or nuts. Crucially, pea is not one of the 14 major allergens and is recommended as the best milk alternative for children aged 12 months-4 years according to a First Steps Nutrition Trust study into plant-based milk alternatives in the diets of 1–4 year-olds, 2021.
  • Are your products suitable for vegans?
Our product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. This means we use no animal derived ingredients in Grow with Iris growing up drink. We are not yet approved by the Vegan society but if that were something that is important to you then let us know.
  • Why are you making a product for 12 months+ and not from birth?
Food allergies often manifest when a child is being weaned and is introduced to solids and a variety of foods, so there is a real need for a nutritious free from toddler product. We have also developed a 0-6 and a 6-12 month formula as we know how needed these are too… they’ll just take longer for us to bring to the market due to all of the regulatory and legislative challenges that come with launching an infant formula which uses an alternative protein!
